Hello, fellow crafters! Today, I'm thrilled to share a new project that is close to my heart—and not just because it features adorable bees! There's nothing quite like the joy of sending a handmade card to bring a smile to someone's face, and this "Buzzing By to Say Hi" card is designed to do just that. The inspiration for this piece started with the classic bee motif but took a modern and playful turn. I wanted to create something that was both cheerful and easy to replicate.
The backbone of this design is the striking color contrast. The left side of the card features clean, bold, vertical stripes in black and pale yellow. This graphic element provides a strong foundation for the softer, more illustrative elements on the right. Instead of a busy background, I opted for a clean white cardstock to allow the other features to pop. To add depth and texture, I stenciled a subtle, warm yellow honeycomb pattern across the right side, which ties beautifully into the overall theme.
The true stars of this card are the three adorable, hand-colored bees. Each bee, with its charming googly-eyed expression, is stamped and colored in classic yellow and grey, bringing a huge dose of personality to the scene. They are arranged playfully, appearing to float around the honeycomb, with one perched cheerfully near a blue honey pot at the bottom. To complete the narrative, I included a hanging honey hive dripping with delicious-looking honey. The sentiment, "BUZZING BY to Say Hi!!!," is presented in a neat black banner, perfectly matching the striped background and offering a warm, friendly message. This project was an absolute joy to create, blending graphic design elements with cute, watercolor-style illustration.
